post party mood

I wasn't able to post last Friday because I got sooo busy with the preparation of our Dance Presentation.  My costume, a violet gown, was so long that I kept stepping on it during our last rehearsal.  So 3 hours before our makeup session, I was mending the gown's hem - using a totally different thread color and running stitches that went everywhere.

Ok, I am not totally in the mood to write everything that went on, though a lot of it was kinda interesting.  Not in the mood because... you know.. we LOST.  There were some technical glitches beyond our control so our presentation was not very much appreciated by the judges.  The venue management asked our group if we could present again because of those glitches, but everyone in our group was already dressed up, the props were missing, and really, it wouldn't be the same anymore.

So, as I said, we lost.  We didn't even get to be the runner-up.  We really lost big time.

And during the party I think I did something which I was not supposed to do, I just hope nobody noticed.. that he didn't notice.  So there, the party experience was not that pleasant for me.

But then I am not going to dwell in the past.  Let me just rant for today, tomorrow I'll be fine.

taking it oh so seriously!

It's one day before the big day - our company Christmas Party.  The most awaited part of our christmas party is not the food, not the raffle, but the inter-department presentation competition.  This year the theme is Magical Christmas, where each department will present a song and dance number based on a Disney princess and with matching story line of course.  I don't know if it's unlucky for us, but the character we got (from draw lots) was Sleeping Beauty.  Compared with others - Beauty and the Beast, Alladin, LIttle Mermaid and Cinderella, at first I really thought ours was somewhat boring.  And yeah, could be a sleepy number even.

But wait, the thinkers and the great choreographers (so why did they become engineers in the first place?) came up with such great ideas, plus the good dancers that we have (again, why did they become engineers in the first place?)  that in the end, I think we had a good chance after all.

Check out the e-mail routing among the participants (ok, i'm one of the dancers, but I would like to think that they picked me just to add numbers to the participants). And see how serious this competition has become:

Hair & make-up requirements: (please send this to all participants)

Make-up for ladies (townsfolks, Queen, Aurora & fairies)

- we need to flatter their eyeslids & eyelashes

- heavy lipstick that would blend with their complexion, not too heavy for Aurora & fairies

- we don't need to have too much blush-on

Make-up for Maleficent

- heavy lipstick & eye shadow, color should match with her gown (purple)

- Pale foundation

- not too much blush-on

Hairstyles for townsfolks

- elegant looped ponytail or french twist

- maintain natura

- avoid hair falling in their faces since they will be wearing simple hairdress like shown below (without the gem stone)

Hairstyles for fairies

- elegant looped ponytail, to flatter their haku head lei.. the ponytail will be within the haku lei.

- few curly hair falling in their cheeks

- maintain natural hair colors

Hairstyles for Queen

- medieval hairstyle (wavy, with few hair falling in her cheeks).

- maintain natural hair color

Hairstyles for Aurora

- the classic wavy hair of sleeping beauty, but not to much body.

- blondy or light brown.. I prefer light brown (para hindi masyadong corny)

Hairstyles for Male

- neat looking: no hair falling in their faces, ears should be exposed

- long hair is a NO NO!!!!!

(just like my boyfriend, Ben)

And that e-mail came from one of our lead female engineers in the office.

I hope we can push this through.  And then just this morning while I was having breakfast, I got a call from Armie, one of our best dancers -- she has a sore throat as well and is running a fever!  I told her to just rest in the morning then attend the dress rehearsal tonight.

Gosh.  This IS serious.

this is what i call 'resting'

I did not go to the office today.  I am still feeling under the weather, my voice is improving but still my throat itches and is sore.  Alright, I am lazy to go to work today.

When I woke up early this morning, it was really cold and the thought of going to work just to attend the Offshore Training (2nd to the last session) and then the daily dance rehearsal at 5pm (for our company christmas party) made me cringe and stay under my bedsheets.  Then I suddenly came up with an idea to just rest at home until i 'feel better'.  Wow, that just made me feel better.

But I had another idea of resting.  First, I will post to my blog, as I am doing right now.  Then will watch a movie (yay!!!!) online (thanks, tudou.com).  Then go to the mall to buy a shawl for our Christmas party.  I will be wearing a backless coctail dress, and with the kind of weather we have lately, I am afraid that wearing a backless dress will make my health worse, so enough of the vanity and put on a shawl, dear.

Well, that's about it for now.  I got to stick with my schedule.  Ta-ta.

hush now

Good thing I can still write.  Because since yesterday, I could hardly speak at all.  My throat itches.  My throat hurts.  Must be due to sudden change in temperature in Manila.  It feels Christmassy!

Last night I was trying so hard to tutor my kids Miguel and Andy for their trimestral exams this week.  Heck, we couldn't understand each other.  It was so hard for me to even say a complete sentence.  Then I had a great idea -- I just whispered... and it worked!  Funny thing though, when the kids talk to me, they whispered as well.

It was indeed a very quiet and peaceful study time for us.

fate no more?

I loved this movie!  It was funny, heartbreaking but full of hope at the same time.

It was about this guy Tom who became friends with this girl named Summer.  They did almost 'everything' that legit couples do, but Summer didn't want to commit, although Tom was really in-love with her from the beginning.  Then one day, Summer just left which devastated Tom.  And then later on Tom found out that Summer just got married.

Towards the end of the movie, the narrator says:

"If Tom had learned anything… It’s that you can’t ascribe great cosmic significance to a simple earthly event. Coincidence. That’s all anything ever is. Nothing more than coincidence.

It took a long time, but Tom had finally learned. There are no miracles. There is no such thing as fate. Nothing is meant to be. He knew. He was pretty sure."

And then Tom met another girl... named...Autumn.

Amazing, right?

Say Cheese!

It's nearing 2010 and this coming year is specially important in the philippines mainly because it's election time once again. As early as several months ago, several politicians were already visible in television thru some form of commercials saying things nationalistic, dealing with moral issues and the like. But the heck, everybody knows it's already a form of premature campaigning.

Which brings me to think... How sincere are these politicians with their promises during the campaign period? How do they win the hearts of the voters? Perhaps a very very nice, wide, toothy smile is the first step. Take the cue from Barrack.

weekend movie 2

Posted at 03:49 AM on November 30, 2009 Comments comments (0)

So last weekend i was able to watch online the movie Paranormal Activity.  I didn't get that scared because 1) i watched it with my kids around, 2) it's in the middle of the day and 3) i only watched it in my laptop.

Last night was different though.  We decided to watch the last full show of the movie 2012 in the nearby cinema.  Well, well, well, it is kinda scary, in the sense that it was full of suspense and the thought of happening it in the real world scares the s. out of me.  I liked the effects (seemed very real) though the movie was kinda long, that towards the end i felt like sleeping already.  Inside info:  Pauline, my daughter sitting beside me was biting her thumb the whole time.

Movie trivia:  laptops used by the heads of different countries were all Sony Vaio.  Turns out that this movie is by Sony Pictures.  Free advertisement?  Anyway, I felt somewhat proud because I own a Sony Vaio.  snickers. lol

scary, scary

Last weekend my daughter pauline downloaded this movie "Paranormal Activity" from the internet.  I don't know how she did it, she wouldn't even tell me what site she downloaded it from, so i can't show you the link here.  Anyway, me and  my 4 kids watched it together and well, the kids got pretty scared.  Of course, ever playing the cool mom, i didn't show them that i was kinda scared as well.  i just assured them that it's just a movie and it's not based on a true story.  (So I'm a party pooper)  By the way, there are obscene languages here, so make sure the kids are reminded and advised not to use those words.

I'm not really a huge fan of scary/horror movies - no gory scenes for me, i don't like flesh eating monsters and zombies movies, but i love watching suspense types, specially those directed by M. Night Shyamalan - "The Sixth Sense", "The Village", "Lady in the Water", "The Happening".  I think he's a genius.  Oh, I also like the twist in the movie "The Others", starring Nicole Kidman.
